Easter Eco Crafts: Paint Easter chicks with dandelions.

Yellow dandelion flowers are abundant at this time of year - so put them to good use by printing with them, their delicate petals make the perfect Easter chick outline when dunked in yellow poster paint!

The less precise you are the better chick outline you will make, so it's an ideal craft for toddlers.

Let the paint dry before you add a beak, spindly legs and black-dot eyes - please DON'T add plastic googly eyes, they will inevitably end up as plastic pollution in our waterways and ultimately the ocean. If you want cartoon eyes, make your own paper 'googly' eyes using hole-punched discs and a black biro (don't use a water based pen or the eyeballs will smudge).

Rinse the paint off the dandelion and soak it in water for two weeks before adding it to your compost - never add freshly picked dandelion flowers (neither yellow nor white and fluffy) to your compost bin, or else the compost you make will be studded with dandelion seeds waiting to erupt (unless your compost bin reaches a sufficiently hot temperature all the way through to kill off the seeds). I don't risk it, so I soak the flowers for 14 days before composting (I add the liquid to a watering can as a nutrient rich feed). So, yet again a fully-compostable craft - eventually!
