Step 20 = Look after the bath mat.
A bath mat is a hard-working bathroom essential. It gives you a clean, absorbent surface to stand on whilst getting dry (and it can be a place to lay a young child whilst drying them). It stops there being slippy wet patches on the bathroom floor.
So look after the mat. It shouldn't be left damp on the floor, as this will provide the idea home for bacteria. Left on the floor, a bath mat will also be trodden on by everyone using the bathroom - meaning toilet germs will be all over it. Not what you want to be standing on with clean, bare feet.
After use, a bath mat should be put somewhere to air - over a towel radiator or towel rail ideally. Or even over the side of the bath would do.
Make sure that your bath mat is 100% cotton (without a rubber backing) as this will ensure that it dries more quickly each day and that it can be washed at 60 C, once a week. You may however need a rubber-backed mat if your bathroom floor is unfortunately comprised of slippery tiles. In which case, be extra vigilant about hanging up a rubber-backed mat to air dry and wash it once a week at 40 C with your usual detergent and the Napisan additive.
Make laundry day less of a rush by buying two bath mats, so one can be in the wash / drying, whilst another is in use.
