Step 23 - Use a (silicone-free) hair mask, once or twice a month.
My favorite hair mask is simply 1 egg + 1/2 a ripe avocado.
Once or twice a month, I apply this protein-packed hair mask before a hair wash. I leave it on for at least 30 minutes. It makes my hair softer and smoother.
This fresh mask doesn't keep, so make it just before using.
1. In a jug (or tall-sided bowl) mash up the ripe avocado-half with a fork and mix with the egg (white and yolk).
2. If you have a stick blender, whizz the mixture for 30 seconds. If not, push the mixture through a sieve, using the back of a spoon.
It is important to REMOVE ALL LUMPS (or you will be combing bits of avocado out of your hair, which is very time-consuming!). For this reason, only use a RIPE avocado.
3. Apply the mask to DRY hair (this quantity is enough to cover even my long hair, when applied dry).
4. Wrap your hair in an old towel - to contain the gunky, green mess and to help your body-heat keep the mask warm.
5. Leave the mask on for between 30 - 60 minutes.
6. Rinse the mask out with COLD WATER.
It is vital to USE COLD WATER to wash out the mask, or else you will cook the egg and end up with bits of cooked egg in your hair!
7. Finally wash your hair as normal.
