Step 25 = Sleep better thanks to amazing curtains.
Blackout curtains and / or blackout blinds are a must. But what if the light still creeps in around the edges?
Sleep is so important for good health, that you need to do something about anything disrupting it.
In the summer months, despite thick blackout curtains, I was waking up with the sun. This was far too early. The sunlight was creeping over the top of the curtains and around either end.
Vertical self-adhesive velcro strips were the solution to stop the light around the curtain edges - now our curtains are velcroed to the wall at either end!
Blocking the light creeping over the top of the curtains was a little more tricky. I sewed a simple pelmet - something which goes along the top of a curtain, for aesthetic or practical reasons - from blackout fabric (available from myfabrics.co.uk in many patterns and colours) and I velcroed that along the top of the window frame - see the photo above. Now the room is pitch black at any time of day - perfect for daytime naps and late morning lie-ins (well I can but wish...).
If something is affecting your sleep (or the sleep of someone else in your household), find a way around it. It is worth the time and hassle. Sleep is essential to good health.
