25Child: Eco-friendly skincare to set your tween off on a sustainable cosmetics pathway

When your tween (by this I mean 9 years+, but not yet pre-teen) needs or wants to start using 'products' on their body and hair, why not steer them towards eco-friendly choices, so that sustainable is their norm?

Here are the products I've been researching quietly (and testing on myself and on my eldest)...

Elsa'a Deodorant Creme in a metal tin comes in 5 scents - there are cute 10g tester tins available to allow fun switching between scents, before choosing which large deodorant tin to eventually buy, once the small tins are all used up. They are not just a gimmick, they are loved by adults and kids alike and made in the UK by a mum who wanted to give her pre-teen a safe and eco deodorant.

If your child wants to smell more like a Lynx advert then 'Earthy Spice' by Scence (in a cardboard tube) might satisfy their need for a noticeable scent.

Kitenest hair wax comes in a metal tin, lasts ages, does the job and is made in the UK. Or if you'd prefer a vegan hair wax then I've heard good things about Rugged Nature hair wax, which is also made in the UK.

Fullers Earth clay facemask powder comes in a metal tin and contains enough for 10 applications. There are 3 types of clay mask to choose from depending on skin type. Again we've not tried these but heard good things. The clay is sourced in France and made into the finished product in the UK.

I've got my eye on 'Spot Stuff' in a metal tin by Stinky Stuff, as we already use their 'Skin Stuff' nourishing cream on eczema patches which is a marvel (but sadly is sold in a plastic tub as the consistency wouldn't suit a tin). The blemish cream must be thicker though as it is sold in a tin and so we will be buying it when needed. Their products are made in the UK, in Yorkshire.

I've previously written a whole blog post on eco-friendly make-up choices and perfumes.

Oh, and a whole blog post on reusable period pads!
