52Eco#29 Switch to an eco-friendly internet search engine.

Ecosia is an internet search engine powered by solar panels (well, its servers are). The company's profits are put into re-forestation (tree-planting) initiatives around the world. Ecosia was launched in Germany in 2009 - by the summer of 2019 the company had planted 60 million trees in countries including Peru, Indonesia, Brazil and Ethiopia!

The Ecosia search engine has recently surged in popularity due to the widely publicised destruction of the Amazon by forest fires.

I find Ecosia slightly more time-consuming to use than Google (you have to scroll down past more ads to find what you want), but I love the info-graphic showing how many trees your internet searches have 'planted' so far. Try it. This is an easy eco-switch, do-able in under 3 minutes...

Go to www.ecosia.org. A pop-up will ask you if you want to ADD ECOISIA to your usual search engine, or scroll down the page a little way and click the blue ADD ECOSIA button. Doing this takes you to your usual browser's webstore. Click ADD. Then click ADD EXTENSION.

Now whenever you click on your usual internet search icon, you will be opening and using Ecosia and planting trees! Your existing bookmarks, shortcuts etc will still be there to use. Why not see if your friends, family and workplace would switch to Ecosia too?
