52Eco#43 Choose brands with repairable / replaceable parts.

*UPDATE* Sadly Sistema no longer offer this lid replacement option. Sigh. I will re-write this blog post when I have found another reusable bottle brand to fall in love with. Currently our ageing Sistema bottles are still going strong, so I have no need to shop around yet.

So many people have reusable waterbottles, and ever-more locations (see refill.org.uk) are publicising their willingness to refill them - yay! Many of these waterbottles will last for years and years, but children tend to get through a fair few. This was the case in our household until I thought to email Sistema.

Sistema waterbottles (available from many high street shops and supermarkets) are well made (i.e. easy enough for a child to open and truly leak-proof), plus even better news is that you can buy replacement sports lids once your child has chewed the original spout beyond use (or if the lid has got grotty festering in a school bag for an entire vacation).

Simply email customerhelpdesk@sistemaplastics.com who will issue you with a reference number and payment instructions, along with the following information...

"We sell replacement Twist N Sip bottle lids at the cost of 20p each plus £2.90 postage (for up to 20 lids i.e. 35p per lid) via BACs payment. If you would like to purchase, please confirm; bottle size in ml, how many lids you would like to order, and the colours required. 330ml/460ml/620ml Twist N Sip lids are available in Blue/Green or Pink/Purple. If any of your bottles have the code V2 embossed on the base (these are just being released at retailers now), please let us know as this now has a different thread and components on the lids."

It works out at 35p per lid (inc. delivery) if you buy 20 Twist N Sip bottle lids in bulk - making it really worthwhile to club together with friends and family.

So, before buying an item you wish to use for years, take a few minutes to check out the practicalities of repairing it or replacing components.
