Eco#62 Collect torn up bits of paper in a paper bag before putting them in the recycling.

Don't be an inadvertent litter bug!

How many times have you seen 'bin confetti' blowing around the street on recycling-bin day? Too many.

We all want to keep our details safe and so we diligently tear up paper with our names and addresses on it. But don't put those tiny wind-blowable bits straight into your paper recycling bin, instead save them up inside a paper bread bag (or similar) and (once full) put the whole bag into the recycling bin. I would suggest splitting your ripped-up paper pieces between two or three paper bags (and putting them out for collection on different weeks) in case any determined would-be fraudster is going through your bin with the intent of sticking ripped up paper back together.

If you are lucky enough to have a compost bin then remember that ripped up paper can be added to it in layers as 'brown' waste, in between the 'green' waste layers of peelings and grass cuttings.

There. Saving the planet and keeping your details safe, all in one step!
